Jeffrey Chen, MD

Jeffrey Chen, M.D.

Radiation oncologists are the doctors who will oversee your radiation therapy treatments. These physicians work with the other members of the radiation therapy team to develop your treatment plan and ensure that each treatment is given safely and accurately. You will be closely monitored during your progress and adjust the treatment as necessary to make sure the radiation is hitting its target while minimizing side effects. Before, during and after your radiation therapy, your radiation oncologist works closely with other cancer doctors such as medical oncologists and surgeons to maximize radiation’s effectiveness.

Dr. Jeffrey Chen is a local board-certified radiation oncologist who grew up in Ruston, Louisiana. He attended Ruston High School and graduated with Honors from the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. He was one of ten students selected from the entire United States for joint early admission to both the college and medical school at the University of Rochester (NY) as part of the Rochester Early Medical Scholars (REMS) Program. He graduated early from college in 3 years with Honors and went on to complete medical school and residency in radiation oncology at the University of Rochester, serving as Chief Resident.

He was one of the highest scoring residents in the country on the radiation oncology board exam and is happy to bring the latest techniques in radiation oncology (Intensity modulated radiation therapy [IMRT], Image-guided radiation therapy [IGRT], stereotactic body radiation therapy [SBRT], stereotactic radiosurgery [SRS], 3D-Conformal Radiation Therapy) back to his home state for the benefit of patients from Louisiana as well as neighboring states. He is also one of the rare radiation oncologists in the entire area residency-trained in the use of precision IMRT photon treatment which significantly lowers side effects.

Dr. Chen is married with twin girls and loves playing sports and watching football, basketball, and playoff baseball along with eating (but not cooking!) in his spare time.
