John Van Savage, M.D.
Dr. Van Savage was born and grew up in New Jersey. He attended Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and majored in biology and french. He studied at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and graduated in 1989. He completed an internship in general surgery and residency in urology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He then undertook a 2 year dedicated Pediatric Urology Fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto. He worked at one of the largest Children’s Hospitals in the country at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, serving as the director of Pediatric Urology .
He has an extensive history of basic and clinical research in children with urologic problems. In 2001 he joined Regional Urology as the only fellowship trained pediatric urologist in Northern Louisiana. He is in numerous professional societies and is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatrics, Urology subsection and the American College of Surgeons. He has published nearly fifty peer review articles and earned numerous honors and awards.
He continues to do clinical research when he is not spending time with his wife and three young children. He enjoys wind surfing, sailing, kayaking, rollerblading, and swimming with his family in his spare time. |
